Ascorbyl Glucoside Solution 12%

A brightening serum with stabilized vitamin C derivative

Vitamin C is an effective antioxidant, brightens the skin tone and reduces signs of aging. In its pure form, Vitamin C is unstable in water. Ascorbyl Glucoside is a water-soluble derivative of Vitamin C. It is much more stable in water but it is less potent than direct L-Ascorbic Acid. Being more compatible with water allows for a very pleasant serum texture. It is considered a gold standard of Vitamin C derivatives due to its high stability and comfortable use, but it's impossible to achieve extremely high L-Ascorbic Acid potency with this solution. Aside from the general benefits of pure Vitamin C, Ascorbyl Glucoside has been shown to offer specific skin brightening benefits.

The Ordinary's portfolio of Vitamin C includes the following formulations:

Vitamin C Suspension 30% in Silicone
Vitamin C Suspension 23% + HA Spheres 2%
Ascorbyl Glucoside Solution 12%
Ascorbyl Tetraisopalmitate Solution 20% in Vitamin F
Magnesium Ascorbyl Phosphate 10%
Ascorbic Acid 8% + Alpha Arbutin 2%
Ethylated Ascorbic Acid 15% Solution
100% L-Ascorbic Acid Powder

Topical Vitamin C offers a wide array of benefits to the skin. However, many forms of Vitamin C and many more formulations of Vitamin C are available commercially with a potential to confuse the audience. We have developed a guide that offers guidance on the formulations of Vitamin C offered under The Ordinary range. It also offers education on Vitamin C itself and on the differences between formulations of Vitamin C at large. Note: Supplied in UV-protective packaging. Review our quides to Vitamin C products
Apply a few drops to face AM and PM. If irritation occurs, cease use and consult a physician. Use only as directed on unbroken skin. Patch testing prior to use is advised. Keep out of reach of children. See how to combine multiple formulations from The Ordinary in a single regimen

Patch tests are an easy way to help predict if you may experience a negative initial reaction to a new product. It is recommended to perform a patch test before incorporating any new product into your regimen. We have outlined a general method for conducting your own patch test below based on the type of product.

  • Apply a small amount of the product onto a clean area of skin on the upper forearm.
  • Keep the area dry.
  • If the product has a specified duration of use, rinse off after this time has elapsed. Otherwise rinse off after 24 hours.
  • If any redness, burning, itching, blistering or irritation is observed at any time throughout the test, do not use the product.

For more product specific information, review our Patch Testing Guide.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Brighter Skin! I’ve been using this product for about 6 weeks now. I wasn’t big on my skincare routine before, just a cleanser and moisturiser. Now I have a full routine in place with The Ordinary and I wouldn’t go back. I’ve seen a huge difference in my skin and other people have commented too. This has made my skin so much brighter and has really evened out my tone. Between this and the other products in my regime, my complexion is clear, my skin is brighter and it feels fully moisturised. I haven’t worn a bit of make up in 4 weeks and I previously never left the house without it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Love this product I have been using this product for at least 2 years now. I have drier skin and have no irritation while using this product. However I do experience brightness, an overall glow and my skin just looks prettier/plumper literally the next day. Great product.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Didn't work for me I wanted to add radiance to my skin and improve the evenness of my skin tone. I chose this after reading reviews and guidance as I hadn't used a Vitamin C serum before and didn't like the grainy, coated feeling that some other products in the range leave behind. After a few months of using this unfortunately I haven't noticed any effect at all, so won't be buying another. I'm a happy repeat buyer of other products from The Ordinary so just think this one may be too gentle for me. Maybe it's better for people with sensitive skin.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Gold in a Bottle This stuff is incredible. Been using it for a few months and I’ve seen a big difference. I’ve always had dark circles and they are actually lightening for the first time in my life. It’s wild. And I know vitamin C doesn’t claim to reduce blackheads but after I started using this serum, my blackheads have looked better than ever before. Most of them are gone and the ones that are visible are so much lighter. It’s amazing. And my skin just feels soft and brand new. It’s the best product in my whole skincare regimen.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great product! I bought this couple months ago and can tell that it is definitely working! My skin does look brighter and it calms my pigmentation. I use it both morning and night. Half the bottle is gone already. I will be stocking up again. The only complaint however, is that I've noticed if my face gets wet, the product seems to foam a bit so that is annoying, other than that I am pleased.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Would be good for non-sensitive skin. I've been using this for a couple of months now, and I think it may have irritated my skin a bit and caused some bumps on my cheeks. I don't use any conflicting products like AHA/BHA or Niacinamide with this, so I know it is not for that reason. This is a great vitamin C product and doesn't sting or feel greasy - it's just not for my skin type!

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Did nothing for my skin I bought this product because I have hyperpigmentation and sadly this product did nothing for my skin. U used it only at PM as it has vitamin C. Plus, the texture is pretty sticky and sat on my pillows. Quit disappointed.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from ... I've started to use it only recently - a week ago - however I feel like I can't continue as the texture is extremely sticky and it would leave a mask-like layer on the skin, making it funny to smile and do any other face expression. Have to say I'm disappointend unfortunately DECIEM Response: Thank you for your feedback, and we're so sorry to hear you didn't love Ascorbyl Glucoside Solution12%. We recommend applying 1-3 drops to the entire face and allowing the product to fully absorb before applying another.
