This formula combines a comprehensive array of studied technologies to target multiple signs of aging at once. The technologies are Matrixyl™ 3000 peptide complex (with palmitoyl tetrapeptide-7), Matrixyl™ synthe'6™ peptide complex (with palmitoyl tripeptide-38), SYN™-AKE peptide complex (with dipeptide diaminobutyroyl benzylamide diacetate), ARGIRELOX™ peptide complex (with acetyl hexapeptide-8, pentapeptide-18), Probiotic complex (with lactococcus lactis lysate), in a base of 11 skin-friendly amino acids and multiple hyaluronic acid complexes. The total concentration of these technologies in the formula by weight is 25.1%. (References are made to third-party trademarks in this description. SYN™ is a trademark of DSM, Matrixyl™ synthe'6™ and Matrixyl™ 3000 are trademarks of Sederma Inc., and ARGIRELOX™ is a trademark of Lipotec S.A.U. Neither The Ordinary nor DECIEM is affiliated with these trademarks or their owners.)

Note: The name of this formula was inspired by some brands referring to their expensive products offering combinations of these technologies as a "buffet", distastefully comparing such products to buffets that offer various kinds of food in one sitting.

For a stronger effort against signs of age, our brand Hylamide offers a next-generation formula, SubQ Skin.

We are deeply grateful to our devoted customers for loving us and our products so much. Our lab has and continues to devote countless hours to share the newest innovations with our broader world. The Ordinary now offers a wide range of products under the Vitamin C, Peptide and Direct Acid categories, and to help our ever-growing, loving family of users build functional and effective routines incorporating these products we have developed an introductory guideline into the brand.

Previously, we did not have a contraindication listed for the use of direct acids/Vitamin C with any of our peptides. However, we now have a huge arsenal of these products and some of the formulations are more susceptible to hydrolysis with certain types of Vitamin C or acids.

Instead of developing a complex guide listing the compatibility of each of our peptides with each acid and Vitamin C, we have adapted the following approach to maximize efficacy for the maximum number of people:

It is best to not use Peptides in the same routine as the following products: Direct acids, LAA (L-Ascorbic Acid) and ELAA (Ethylated Ascorbic Acid). In addition, we would recommend avoiding the use of products containing copper peptides in the same routine as strong antioxidants as well as direct acids/LAA/ELAA.

Apply to the entire face in the AM and PM after cleaning. If irritation occurs, cease use and consult a physician. Use only as directed on unbroken skin. Patch testing prior to use is advised. Keep out of reach of children. See how to combine multiple formulations from The Ordinary in a single regimen

Patch tests are an easy way to help predict if you may experience a negative initial reaction to a new product. It is recommended to perform a patch test before incorporating any new product into your regimen. We have outlined a general method for conducting your own patch test below based on the type of product.

  • Apply a small amount of the product onto a clean area of skin on the upper forearm.
  • Keep the area dry.
  • If the product has a specified duration of use, rinse off after this time has elapsed. Otherwise rinse off after 24 hours.
  • If any redness, burning, itching, blistering or irritation is observed at any time throughout the test, do not use the product.

For more product specific information, review our Patch Testing Guide.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Food for your skin I've been using this serum for a weeks now, and I really love it. I don't really notice a big difference, but I do feel the difference. If I had to describe it, I would say it feels like "food" for your skin. Also a worthy note: the dropper was broken so the product spilled when in my bag. I contacted Deciem about it expecting to be send a new dropper, and they fully refunded the serum!! This is the second time I had to contact them, and I must say that customers service is amazing.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Not for everyone I’ve tried several The Ordinary products and all seem to kick off blemishes in my face. The buffet product it feels quite nice when I apply it but 5 minutes later my skin is red & itchy.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Just what my skin needed This product came recommended when I used the build your skincare routine and I was slightly dubious at first but it turns out it was what my skin needed and after 4 weeks of use I had so many people saying my skin looked so much brighter, clearer and all around more healthy. I have very fair skin (I use the serum foundation in the lightest shade) so I feel its harder to make it look healthy and 'glow' anyway this stuff did that, it evened my skin tone, reduced my fine lines and hydrated my dry skin.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from My most favourite I love all the products I tried and still use but this one is the best for me. It feels as it has te best of every product in it. My skin always have some problems since I was 13. Now I am 50. But since I use the products from the Ordinary I can handle them. Buffet makes my skin firm (less wrinkles, extreme moisturized), it protects and does my skin glow. It is a bit thick but that gives me a safe feeling. I do not use any make up over it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from The best value for money Really good serum with leaves your face hydrated, dries out on the face pretty fast and allows you to put makeup right away if you don't want to use a cream. I don't think you can find anything like that on the market for this amount of money

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Works for some but not all My skin is dry and prone to blemishes, sadly this product seems to aggravate it more. I really tried to work with it, switching to evenings for example and every other day but nothing worked. I'd still recommend it because it'll still work for some, don't be discouraged by some of the reviews and keep an eye out on the reviews' skin types. Finally, I'm giving it a 2 only because it didn't work for me.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Too much of a good thing I have sensitive and fair skin, prone to rosacea. So if you have my skin type, you may have the same reaction. Instead of me seeing positive results, it just aggravates my skin. Bummer. But i think less is more when it comes to what I put on it.
