The Ordinary range of Mineral UV Filters formulas’ offer SPF protection along with antioxidant, hydration, and anti-irritant support.

The Mineral UV Filter formulas avoid the use of any nanoparticles. Instead, a refined dispersion of micronized ZnO and TiO2 in flexible, high-volatility, non-comedogenic silicones allows the formulations to remain extremely lightweight by optimizing the amount of the blocking agents. Our formulation uses mainly ZnO for its protective effects (because in addition to reflecting/refracting light, ZnO is actually also able to absorb UV rays without creating oxygen radicals) and the supporting TiO2 that it contains is only in rutile form (no anatase form of TiO2 is used at all since it's an aggressive producer of free radicals).

The technologies shared in Mineral UV Filter Formulas’ are:

Bio-Active Antioxidant Network
A potent combination that scavenges and neutralizes free radicals, minimizes the intensity of UV radiation penetrating the skin, visibly protects biological membranes and supports the skin response to UV exposure.

Bio-Sugar Complex
A unique blend of hygroscopic molecules with Multi-layer coverage providing both short and long-term hydration and also naturally increases skin’s own capacity to hold water.

Skin Identical Lipids
Lipids that visibly restore the compromised barrier and prevents transepidermal water loss (TEWL).

Tasmanian Pepperberry
Rich in flavanones, anthocyanins, and minerals, this active technology helps to calm stressed skin, acting almost immediately.
Shake well before use. Apply to face liberally and evenly 15 to 20 minutes before UV exposure. To maintain protection during continued UV exposure, reapply every 2 hours or after material water exposure, towel-drying, swimming, or extensive perspiration. Use a water-resistant sunscreen if swimming or sweating. Suitable for all skin tones. For use on children less than 6 months of age, consult a physician prior to use. Keep out of eyes. Rinse with water to remove. If irritation occurs, cease use and consult a physician. Use only as directed on unbroken skin. Patch testing prior to use is advised. Keep out of reach of children. If swallowed, get medical help or contact a Poison Control Center right away. For external use only. Protect the product in this container from excessive heat and direct sun. This product helps prevent sunburn.

Sun Protection Measures: Spending time in the sun increases your risk of skin cancer and early skin aging. To decrease this risk, regularly use a sunscreen with a Broad Spectrum SPF value of 15 or higher and other sun protection measures including: • limit time in the sun, especially from 10 a.m.-2 p.m.; and • wear long-sleeved shirts, pants, hats, and sunglasses. See how to combine multiple formulations from The Ordinary in a single regimen

Patch tests are an easy way to help predict if you may experience a negative initial reaction to a new product. It is recommended to perform a patch test before incorporating any new product into your regimen. We have outlined a general method for conducting your own patch test below based on the type of product.

  • Apply a small amount of the product onto a clean area of skin on the upper forearm.
  • Keep the area dry.
  • If the product has a specified duration of use, rinse off after this time has elapsed. Otherwise rinse off after 24 hours.
  • If any redness, burning, itching, blistering or irritation is observed at any time throughout the test, do not use the product.

For more product specific information, review our Patch Testing Guide.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A Little Goes a Long Way I love having a sun cream especially for my face. I hate putting general sun cream on my face and how greasy it feels. This feels like a moisturiser with added spf. You don’t need a lot so I just do a wee bit at a time until my whole face has been done. It is quite white but if you apply as I do an rub in till absorbed, you sent notice anything.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from The best mineral sunscreen I've ever used! I'm a fan of mineral UV protection, but was quite reluctant to try this out due to mi ed reviews. I should have bought it sooner. Maybe bad rewievs are from people with darker skin tone, but I am quite fair skinned and it works perfectly. I biked for 6 hours in the sun and my sensitive skin is left untouched. No freckles, no redness. Remember that a good mineral sunscreen will always leave a bit of white cast but it's safe and effective against UVB and UVA.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Affects my makeup At first I really liked this sunscreen, I’m not to bothered by the tinge and it’s not as oily as other sunscreens BUT for some reason it changes the color of my brow liner from brown to orange and I end up looking like a clown whenever I put it on! It’s honestly annoying cos I’ve never had this problem with other sunscreen

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Love it I've never reviewed an ordinary product, I use about 6 different things, because they're always well reviews so I don't bother. However, I have to defend this product. I love it. It goes on white, fades after maybe 1 minute and leaves my face with a really even skin tone, almost like a ultra sheer BB cream. I've had no breakouts, and I love that it's packed with antioxidants. I've tried many SPF, and this one doesn't leave me feeling like I've got a sweaty latex glove on my face. I would love an SPF 50 please and a bigger tube. Xx

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great formulation for a physical sunscreen I'm in my mid 30s and acne prone - and have always been prone to acne since my teenage years. Facial sunscreens made me break out and I avoided them as a result. This formulation doesn't make me break out, doesn't make me greasy or prevent makeup from adhering to my skin. If anything, it's a little mattifying.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Realy like it This product is nice to apply and almost no white cast, only wish they had one with SPF 50 and a bigger size. For those who complain about the white cast, just apply a normal amount to the face wait about 2 minutes, re-apply and massage it properly. It's my go to when I stay home but need a higher SPF when I'm outside just because I'm a bit crazy when it comes to protecting my skin when outside.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Try mixing with foundation! This sunscreen definitely leaves a white/ blueish? cast when applied on its own. I tried mixing this sunscreen with a sightly darker foundation & voila- perfect. The sunscreen is not too watery & not too thick- just right. It feels a tad sticky initially but this goes away. I like this product much better that the super expensive brand I was using (which I also added foundation to). I prefer mineral sunscreens for lots of reasons.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Whitecast, but it goes away after 15 mins Disclaimer: I have lighter skin (East Asian) so perhaps it isn't quite as noticeable, but there is definitely a lot of whitecast at first like many other reviewers have commented, but this goes away after 15 mins. I also find it helpful because I can see easily where I did and did not apply enough sunscreen. The issue I do have with this though is that it pills and if you get it in your eyebrows and you have dark hairs like mine, the white cast doesn't quite go away in that. It just pills there. That being said though, I still love this sunscreen and will continue to buy it! Hopefully I can find another mineral sunscreen that doesn't have those faults.
